چکیده
Post-weaning protein malnutrition is often related to the development of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases in humans, as well to changed content of neurotransmitters in the central nervous system under experimental conditions. The rostral ventrolateral medulla (RVLM) is a bulbar region that contains sympathetic premotor neurons; the excitatory amino acid L-glutamate seems to be the main neurotransmitter at this level. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the possible change in the L-glutamate sensitivity of the RVLM neurons of malnourished animals. Male Fischer rats were divided into two groups: control (n = 15) and malnourished (n = 19). Four days before the experiments, guide cannulas were implanted bilaterally in direction of the RVLM for microinjection of L-glutamate. Twenty-four hours before the experiments, the femoral artery was cannulated for cardiovascular recordings. The results showed that the baseline heart rate increased in malnourished compared to control animals (412.18 ± 16.03 bpm vs. 370.74 ± 9.59 bpm, respectively). Malnourished animals presented a dissimilar concentration-dependent pressor response curve to L-glutamate and an attenuated barorefl ex gain. Our results suggest that post-weaning protein restriction aff ects glutamatergic neurotransmission of the barorefl ex at the RVLM level. Key terms: barorefl ex, blood pressure, L-glutamate receptors, heart rate, malnutrition, RVLM.

How to play (3×3)-games.: A strategy method experiment
Using the strategy method (Selten 1967) we elicit subjects' strategies for playing any 2-person 3x3-game with integer payoffs between 0 and 99. In each of 5 tournaments, every strategy pair plays 500000 games. The frequency of pure strategy equilibrium play increases from 51% in the first to 74% in the last tournament, with the equilibria that maximize joint payoff being preferred when multiple...

متن کاملHEL/UAP56 Binds Cotranscriptionally to the Balbiani Ring Pre-mRNA in an Intron-Independent Manner and Accompanies the BR mRNP to the Nuclear Pore
The splicing factor UAP56/HEL/Sub2p is essential for mRNA export. It has been proposed that UAP56/HEL/Sub2p interacts with the pre-mRNA during splicing and recruits the export factor Aly/REF/Yra1 (reviewed in ) to the spliced mRNA. However, UAP56/HEL/Sub2p also participates in the transport of intronless mRNAs, and thus its role in export is not necessarily coupled to splicing. Here, we charact...
